Until now, Guyana born Keith Waithe has been one of the best kept secrets on the jazz scene. Together with his band the MACUSI PLAYERS, he produces an original musical styles exploring the cultural diversity and fusion of Jazz, African, Caribbean and Asian music in a light matrix of polyrhythmic currents. Keith Waithe has mixed many ideas fused many enigmatic musical forms and worked on many ‘other’ projects from radio, theatre to television that have utilised his drive for a sound that move audiences spiritually and sensually. Keith first learned to play the trumpet from his father in Guyana and during his formal music training there, transferred to the flute. He developed a passion for the instrument — studying it as well mastered it at the University of Surrey and the Royal Military School of Music. After another stint in Guyana, Keith formed the Macusi Players, (taking the name from the powerful Macusis Ameridian tribe from Guyana) incorporating the diverse influences and origins from within the group —blending the Indian tabIa African drums, vocal effects and bass and keyboard of course his own flutes. The live set from Keith Waithe represents the ultimate fusion of world dance rhythms, a unique and exquisite journey around the world. Featuring a rich blend of cultural rhythms and jazz melodies inspired by the backdrops of the virgin rain forest and the vast savannahs of the Guyanese landscape, the Macusi Players increasing popularity, delight audiences with both traditional routes and modem hypnotic club tracks.
