Ealing Jazz Festival - Wednesday the 9th August.

12.30pm Bryan Corbett Quintet

This Birmingham band draws from East Coast and West Coast sounds of the 60s, Emanating a cool vibe, the band’s pad ranges across Baker/Mulligan, Clark Terry and Oliver Nelson through to Horace Silver and funky Herbie Hancock charts. Festival regulars will spot Jim Hunt as a former LCMM Jazztet member.

According to leader Ken Baldock these eminent and widely-travelled musicians are Ronnie Scott alumni, although not necessarily all at the same time. As you would expect from the Scott association, Ken and his illustrious colleagues offer a straight-ahead modern jazz mix of standards and original charts.

7.30pm Winston Morson’s Off The Cuff

Guitarist Winston Morson’s band promises a fascinating programme of contemporary modern jazz with a strong Latin and funk groove. As in last year’s exciting appearance by this roaring outfit, Winston’s original compositions inspired by jazz improvisations will be featured, including several tracks from the band’s latest CD.

Frank Griffith’s Nonet combines a big band’s powerful ensemble sound with small group improvisational flexibility. The leader’s compositions and his arrangements of pieces by such composers as Gil Evans, Donald Fagen, Oliver Nelson and Duke Ellington will feature alongside a new suite, Update, written for the occasion by Eddie Harvey, who directs its premiere.
