Eddie Harvey, eminent educator and mentor of young British jazz talent, presents an exciting group of up-and-coming modern jazz musicians from the Ealing-based London College of Music and Media. The high-energy Lindy Hoppers perform colourful dance routines from the earlier years of the Jazz Age with an opportunity for audience participation.

3.15pm Jambalaya Parade Band

This New Orleans-style marching band will parade throughout the Festival site until 345pm - and again from 500pm until 530pm.

3.45pm Bob Kerr ~ his Whoopee Band

Bob ‘Der Führer’ Kerr (cornet/trombone/saxes/ banjo/guitar/whoopee-phone/euphonium!hot teapot/vocals) John ‘The Professor’ Percival (clarinet/alto sax/musical saw/the (very) odd vocal/ukelele/magician/motor horns/whistles) Spike ‘Fingers’ Botterill (piano/electric keyboards! 5th in line for the banjo hot seat) Dave ‘The Gentle Giant’ Turner (sousaphone/double bass/bass guitar/bass trombone/tuba/euphonium/bass trumpet) Thomas ‘Spats’ Langham (banjo/ ukelele banjo/guitar/vocals) Ted ‘Stix’ Wood (drums/percussion/tubular bells/cymbals)

Lovable lunatics, madcap musicians, creatively crazy, jazzy jokers, artistically anarchic, fantastically funny. What more can one say of these guys except they are also superb musicians - in fact, they present jazz banditry of the highest order. Wear your tightest corsets or be prepared to burst1

Blues guitar wizard Jon ‘T-Bone’ Taylor leads the Bop Brothers in a programme of blues mixed with jazz and soul influences. The band features multi-award-winning saxist Dick Heckstall-Smith and will play material from its new CD, Bop Brothers... and Sisters.

645pm Urban British Jazz Dance Company

A perennial Festival favourite,

Alan Elsdon’s Bill le Sage has downsized from last year’s

This stunningly talented company will amaze you with a short freestyle jazz dance exhibition on the temporary stage at the International Food Fair (see page 5).

amazing Genetically Modified Quintet set which generated a noteworthy CD Suite 2000 that is currently available. This year’s normal-sized quintet promises to be equally exciting with what Bill describes as an updated look at some bebop classics. A new-took Bebop Preservation Society?

7.15pm Roland Lacey’s Steeplechase

Hardblowing Ealing tenorman Roland Lacey has assembled an all-star team to play 1950s’ and 60s’ numbers penned by such giants as Charlie Parker, Horace Silver and Jutian ‘Cannonball’ Adderley. Brilliant trumpeter Janusz Carmeto will lock horns with Roland and the ever-entertaining Willie Garnett. And check out this swinging rhythm section.
