Angie's Weather Page

Welcome to my weather page. Do you talk a lot about the weather? Most people do. It's officially the most popular topic of conversation in the UK.There are many reasons why we need to know about the weather: the current forecast is important, because we need to know if we should take an umbrella or raincoat if we go out, the  medium term forecast helps farmers plan the planting and harvesting of crops and finally the long range weather forecasts give predictions about climate change.

There are many sites devoted to the subject, some serious and some lighthearted. I wanted to illustrate the diversity of weather sites Here are some of my favourites.

Met Office Homepage

Check current conditions and forecasts

World famous organisation which supplies weather infomation to many other weather forecasting companies, including BBC Weather online.Easily navigable site with search facility.5 day forecasts for UK towns and major world cities.  Other online services relate to shipping, aviation, education and leisure. The Met Office carries out much research and development work behind the scenes and the site provides links to further information about these activities. The latest innovation is customised forecasts automatically transmitted to your WAP phone.

Webcam for London Skyline

London's most famous landmark, Big Ben. Refreshes every 5 seconds. This one is best viewed during daylight hours. There's a fascinating webcam of the sharks at the London Aquarium on this site, too. This is is commercial website and includes many advertisements. I included it as a contrast to the Met Office.
One minor complaint - you can't tell if it's raining in the webcam pictures

Weird Weather Wonders

Produced by a Canadian children's magazine publisher. A colourful, informative site for children.Contains fascinating weather facts. The purpose of the site (apart from selling subsciptions to magazines) is to get children involved in science, technology and the natural world.
I liked this site because the graphics were so beautiful.

Hurricanes:Online Meteorology Guide

This is a serious scientific site published by the University of Illinois Department of Atmospheric Science as part of the WW2010 (Weather World 2010) project, which started in 1993. Using a mixture of real time weather graphics  and text based educational material, they aim to develop instruction modules for students and teachers,  in the form of project based learning.
These can be downloaded free by non-commercial users.

Tempest Tours: Storm Chasing Expeditions

Commercial organisation selling expensive holidays to adrenaline junkies.
